JAGUAR S-Type 1965 - 3.8ltr Auto ***GREAT CLUB CAR***

"The looks & the sound of the 60's"

This beautiful Jaguar S-Type 3.8ltr fitted with the Automatic gearbox, is in very good condition inside and out. Unfortunately the original owner of the vehicle was in the process of a rolling restoration when time beat him. I will list in more detail below what has been completed & what still needs finishing.

The S-Type is the follow on model of the famouis Mk2, with all the great looks of the Mk2 including the leaping Jaguar on the bonnet. The S-Type was fitted with the now famous independent rear end, which makes the vehicle drive very different to the earlier Mk2's with their live rear ends. It is the same rear end that was fitted to the E-Types & continued production until the late 1980's.

I will list the GOOD & then the BAD (there is certainly NO UGLY)

The GOOD (Work completed)

  • Engine is the original 3.8ltr & runs beautifully. It starts on the push of the button & has an electirc choke overide switch.
  • 420 front end fitted including update brakes. The 3 pot Girling brakes that are fitted to the 420's are very sought after by all Mk2 owners as a much better upgrade  to the original Dunlop brakes. The Dunlops were a great brake but very expensive to repair as the calliper itself had to be re-sleeved whereas the Girling calliper had pistons that could be replaced individually. This meant the rebuilding the brakes would be at least 75% cheaper to repair & easier to find the parts as they are the same as the XJ6's.
  • The seats, door trims, carpets & roof lining have all been replaced. The seats have been retrimmed in the original ambler available at the time.
  • The engine bay is very original & you can see from the photos how original it is.

The BAD (Work to complete)

  • The dash & top needs to be relaminated & polished. The average cost to have a proffessional do the job would be approx $1700.00, but please check with you local tradesman as they all have different pricing structures.
  • There are a couple of small marks on the body & would be easy to blow some paint colour.
  • General tidy up of the car & a detail polish would make the world of difference.
  • Needs the boot chrome/glass assembly to be fitted up as sitting in the boot.

In summary this is a great looking vehicle & is a great opportunity for someone to finish fitting the vehicle up to their standards. Would make an excellent "Club Car" for someone & would qualify for clup rego being over 30 years old. This means that you can register it thru you club for only $55.00 per year including the Green slip (NSW prices - we dont know the interstate prices & regulations) We can not state what else it would need for registration, but once the above items are attended to, it should pass OK.
